Position statement

Heatsync Labs is a Hackerspace, not a storage space. As a result it should be actively used for work, not a place for things that might be worked on someday. However, for large projects that are in-progress it is sometimes necessary for them to be temporarily left at the lab. To facilitate that we have green Parking Passes to keep the number of projects manageable.

What does this apply to

  • Member projects
  • Member materials
  • Member tools

What doesn't this apply to

  • Heatsync tools
  • Heatsync materials
  • Member tools on long-term loan to Heatsync

How can I tell which is which?

Lab equipment should have an asset tags.

Parking Passes

Parking passes are green tags that are attached to your project. They must have the following information:

  • Your name
  • Contact information
  • Current date

Parking passes are only valid for 7 days and the project can not disrupt the function of the lab.

Flat stock

Flat stock has slightly different rules due to the fact that it is bulky to transport and not everyone has a car to transport it back and forth.

  • Flat stock may stay at the lab for 30 days, with a proper parking pass.
  • After 30 days it is subjected to the same red tag process and can be either taken by a member or moved to scrap for community project use.

Note: We may come up with a different process for this, but if so it will be updated via proposal and this page will hopefully be updated as well.

Red tags

Any equipment or material that has an expired or invalid (lacking date or member information) parking pass can be red-tagged at any time. Red tags are valid for 14 days. Any time after 14 days the material can either be taken by a member or discarded.

Process

  • Fill out a red tag and attach it to the item in question
  • Make a good faith effort to contact the member that owns the material. This means you should:
    • Call/text/email the contact information on the parking pass.
    • Post to the Google group about the red tag.
    • Post in slack (#red_tags) about the red tag. @ the member directly as well to let them know.
