Concept

After a Nov 2010 article in the journal Current Biology (no pun intended I'm sure) brought to our attention the technique of running a small amount of DC current across the surface of the head to induce positive (or negative) effects. It's our intention to build a device similar to the one used in the study, and attempt to reproduce the findings.

To Do

1. Design a current delivery circuit.

    • Must be variable from 0-2mA minimum over a variable human head load.
    • Random samples of head resistance across Parietal lobes seems to be 300K-3M Ohms. Need better understanding of this variability.

2. Design/program a delivery controller.

    • Should obfuscate the R-L, L-R, and sham groups in digital programming.
    • Need the ability to vary the current circuit over time by ramping up the current from 0-1mA over 20-30seconds and ramp back down down similarly.
    • Need the ability to time the delivery for 30sec-1hr.

3. Produce BoM order parts and build devices.

    • At least 3 devices for the 3 groups.

4. Design Study

    • Is there a test that mimics the numerical Stroop paradigm for abstract numerical symbol learning?
    • Can the study be performed in groups, or does it need to be one at a time?
    • What other factors need to be ruled out?
    • How do we make it double blind? 3rd party to program controllers and number them?
    • Can I use 3 subjects?

5. Find study participants

    • Jacob
    • Jeremy
    • Randy
    • Self?

6. Conduct study

    • Schedule

7. Analysis

8. Publish?
